2021 Beijing International Craft Brewing Exhibition
This week, Apr 14-16, marks the annual Beijing International Craft Brewing Exhibition, and while it probably doesn't need to be on your radar unless you're a producer, seller, or generally involved in making big, badass beer-related machinery, the event is a great way to get the skinny on the latest beer goss and contacts for things like equipment, raw materials, and packaging, etc. Despite being relatively industry-focussed, it certainly wouldn't be a beer exhibition without some beer. Register for the event via the official website (https://www.bjbrew.com/visitor/) before heading out to the Beijing Etrong International Exhibition Hall in Yizhuang.
Superfly terrace opening
To celebrate the arrival of spring and the reopening of their terrace, modern Sichuan restaurant and bar Superfly at the Opposite House is throwing an afternoon outdoor party this Saturday, 3-6pm. For RMB 168, attendees will get three hours of free-flow drinks and snacks while DJ Sun Meng provides the beats. Book your ticket ahead of time here. The event will also mark the launch of their new 打包 window, where you can grab drinks and snacks to go anytime midday to late. Meanwhile, the Opposite House's other venues are all offering some kind of boozy deal to ring in the warm weather (spritzes from their Frasca restaurant are pictured at top). Get the full lowdown via this link.
On Friday, Belgian Courtyard 4 beer bar De Refter launch their latest gin of the month event, offering buy one, get one free on three Gin Mare-mixed drinks. The cocktails, which would otherwise cost RMB 80 a pop, include a gin and tonic, sour, and negroni, mixed using the Mediterranean-distilled gin. Get them on special from 5pm onwards.
Slow Boat launches their second 10-year beer
Finally, following the success of their first 10-year beer release, Slow Boat return with another big and boozy number for Volume II: the 10 Year Beer Triple Oat Cream. Described by the brewery as "a bold expression of everything IPA," it boasts "explosively fruity hop flavors and a sweet clean finish." It also comes in a neat and colorful decorative box, which belies the potency of this ABV 10.1 percent, 500ml brew. Packed with Idaho 7, HBC472, Mosaic, Cashmere, Ahtanum, and Loral hops, the Triple Oat Cream also features a honeysuckle finish and strong notes of raspberry and tropical fruit. You can get it now at all Slow Boat locations or via their Taobao store for RMB 88.
